The first truck in the novel is a 1926 Ford Model TT. Of course it is Henry Ford black. It is a rugged commercial vehicle. The Ford Model TT was a series of trucks introduced in 1917 that were based on the Ford Model T.

The TT featured a more robust frame as well as rear axle. That and the longer wheelbase gave it the rating of a short ton. The Model TT shared its 2.9L inline four with the Model T, and was available in a variety of purpose built body styles from a number of builders.

Production of the Ford Model TT lasted until 1927. The price in 1917 was $600. By the end of production it cost $325.

At first the buyer bought just a truck with a frame. In 1924 the truck could be bought with a factory body. You could have a pick up truck, panel truck, canopy express box truck or stake truck.

With standard gearing, a speed of not more than 15 mph. With an accessory gearbox it could reach 22 mph. It had a 3.3 Liter, 4-cylinder inline engine.
